To the Wonder
WOW. This was SO boring! I honestly almost fell asleep while watching this Film. If you made it passed this Film without falling asleep or getting so utterly bored then you should win the Nobel Prize for it. Terrence Malick ("The New World", "The Tree of life") must have been in SOME mode to make a Film like this because unlike "The Tree of life" this Film actually wastes the Talents of Ben Affleck (who had just done the acclaimed Film "Argo" that last year) and Javier Bardem (Oscar winner for "No Country for old Men). The Film also includes actress Olga Kurylenko who I don't know what other Films that she's been him. There is like NO DIALOGUE in this at all because most of the time what's going on is just Actress Olga Kurylenko dancing and running around like an idiot and a lot of those kind of music that you would here in a "Beautiful" or "Graceful" moment of a Film. Believe it or not it's actually cringe worthy in this Film. I had mentioned earlier in this Review that I was so fucking bored watching this and I will tell you why; 1)- The Film was nearly 2 hours long, 2)- This Film is just so, so, SO slow (A Turtle can run miles around this Film. That's how slow it is!), and 3)- There is NOTHING happening in this Film. I'm not even kidding you they spend about 15 or 20 minutes at a scene with beautiful scenery or a sunset with NOTHING happening at all. This Film can be used as a lullaby for your Kid or yourself to put you in Bed. I made the terrible mistake of seeing this at 8:50 at night because at about an hour in I was just DYING, just dead as a Fish out of water watching this. For me, it was like the 6th level of Hell, THAT'S how tortuously boring this Film is. Another thing that just had me tortured for 2 hours was how Malick shot most of the Film. Every shot with Affleck and Kurylenko seems to have to be with a Steadicam coming towards them. It looked so ugly honestly. Despite with what I have to say about this Film, I will say that the Music for this Film was, honestly, very beautiful and touching which I thought bought emotion to the Story, even though it's delivered to us in the worst way possible and Ben, Olga, and Javier AT LEAST look like there having a good time filming this Film. The Film must have been filmed in early 2012 because Affleck was perfectly terminal with the fact that his Film "Argo" didn't even come out yet for the Public or the Critics to see. Lucky him. Not even those things are going to save this disaster. Boring, tedious, and sometimes ugly to look at this was truly, truly Terrence Malick's misfire. What a shame honestly. Basically every good Director has to make at lest one bad Film. There was Steven Spielberg with "Hook" in 1991, there was Oliver Stone with "Alexander" in 2004, there was Ang Lee with "Taking Woodstock" in 2009, and now we have Terrence Malick with "To the Wonder". Not every Director out there can be John Ford or Stanley Kubrick that goes to show you folks.
