The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Rating: 2/4
Unlike the actual amazing Spider-Man which cam out in 2004, ten years ago, this Spider-Man ultimately lacks the amount of fun and wit that film had so long ago. Now, I was never so crazy with what how there rebooting Spider-Man because for someone who grew up with the old, original Spider-Man films, the one's starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi, I was pretty surprised that they where doing this because I always thought that they were going to just stick with the original plan in doing Spider-Man 4. But, nope.
But aside from me having to get used to this new reboot of Spider-Man, this new Spider-Man was a bit of a let down.
One of the problems with "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is that there's too much story going on in this film. There's the story of Peter Parker (Spider-Man) trying to win back Gwen Stacy after she breaks up with him, there's the story of how Electro (played by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx), and then there's the story about how Harry Osborn, played by the kid from "Chronicle", is running oscorp business after his father dies then becoming sick and thinking that Spider-Man's blood would cure him. Oh, and Paul Giamatti is in this too as Rhino for about only two scenes in this two hour film. With all of what's going on in this film, with so many stories happening, the film losses focus because this film starts to become a superhero film, a love story, an action film, and a drama all in under two hours and twenty-two minutes. Heck, not even "Spider-Man 3" had this many stories in it.
Another problem with this is that we don't see that much of the villains in this. We only see Paul Giamatti as Rhino for only two scenes in this: the very beginning and the very end of this film. So, he's pretty much in this for about 5, maybe even 8% of this. Jamie Foxx as Electro is only in this for about thirty minutes, so we don't know much about what exactly he's going through or what he's planning on. And finally, Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") who, Spoiler Alert, becomes Green Goblin at the last minute of the film only has not even ten minutes of screen time in this.
And another problem with this is that with the amount of humor and comedy that there throwing in this film (which isn't a big surprise since this is a marvel film) along with all of the stories and issues that are going on with this film, the film losses all of the wit and fun that made the old films work because sometimes in serious moments that this film has, the moments that you start to take seriously, they just throw something at the screen at you to laugh at -- In fact, the comedy ITSELF becomes unfocused because this film turns into a humorous adventure in the beginning, but then becomes a tragic comedy at the end. You can kind of tell that the reason they did this was because people where complaining that the first Amazing Spider-Man needed more humor and comedy. I'm sorry to say, but they should have just kept "Amazing Spider-Man 2" all dark and tragic like the first film.
I'm not going to spoil this film any more, but I will say this: when film ends, right when the screen cuts to black and then fades out, rolling the end credits, you can immediately tell that there planning on making about a hundred more Spider-Man films. Hopefully those hundreds of Spider-Man films that come along in the future can make up for the disappointing "Amazing Spider-Man 2". So, sorry, folks but I was not a fan of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".
