The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
For all of you wondering, yes this follows along the same routes as the last Hobbit Film back in 2012 so if you missed out on it then you better watch that one because "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" will make zero sense to you. Also, everybody is back and reprising there roles again so don't worry if you where thinking that Peter Jackson was going to pull a fast one on you and ruin the franchise like that. Anyway again, with the hate with the new "Hobbit" Films.... Can we please just leave them alone? I mean, sure there not as good as "The Lord of the Rings" films and sure, they lack the majesty and wit of the "Lord of the Rings" Films. But what "The Hobbit" does accomplish is that it provides good enough, enjoyable fun for anybody that's between the ages of ten or fifteen. Maybe even older then that. Anyway, now that I got that off of my chest let me just say that (in my opinion) "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is much, much better then the first Film (even though I'm giving it the same score that I gave the last Film back in 2012 because "The Hobbit" still isn't as good as "The Lord of the Rings" Films). Why? well because there's more action, the story moves along much faster, and I think that the CGI here is much, much better then the last Film. Seriously, some of the stuff in this Film looks just so real and so convincing that it's pretty scary actually. It may not win the Oscar next year for Best Visual Effects (it's going to loose to "Gravity"), but it will be nominated. Along with "Oblivion" and "Oz the great and powerful". There is also more humor in this one then in the last Film. There are just some moments in this Film where all of the action or fighting going on becomes very cartoon-ish and just very silly. But, hey, that's not a bad thing really. Why? because, yeah, "The Lord of the Rings" never had any of that stuff, but what it did have was clever humor at times. It's not like a Marvel Film in which the humor has to be every five minutes or so. This is the kind of Film (like "The Lord of the Rings") where it happens every now and then. The humor in this happens every thirty or forty minutes and then the Film calms down and moves on with the story smoothly. Now one of the biggest things that a lot of people may get upset with is the ending of this. I'm not going to spoil it, but the way this Film ends just leaves the audience kind of shocked and felling a bit copped out because your just so tense and on the edge of your Seat of what is going on that (even after two hours and thirty minutes) you fell kind of betrayed that the Film just ends after the most intense moment in the whole Film. People shouldn't get upset at the way it ends because they all already know that there making "The Hobbit" into three Films. Like they did with "The Lord of the Rings" Films. So I think people shouldn't be upset with the way this Film ends and I think they should just appreciate these new Hobbit Films. So if "The Hobbit: an unexpected journey" was "The Phantom Meance" by comparison, then "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is probably "Attack of the Clones". Honestly, compared to "Attack of the Clones" (from "Star Wars" by the way) "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is the best fantasy Film of 2013.
So anyway, an improvement over the first Film, great CGI, fun action and adventure, and like the last Film, I just can't wait to see how this trilogy is going to end. It'll probably be epic like "The return of the King". Hell, maybe even better.
