Hope Springs
A very sweet and well-acted Film. Meryl Streep ("Sophie'c Choice", "Kramer vs. Kramer", "The Iron Lady"), as usual, gives a very great and emotional performance in this, Tommy Lee Jones ("Men in Black", "No Country for Old Men") was also great in this, and Steve Carell ("The 40-year old Virgin", "The Office") was surprisingly very good in this as a marriage counselor. This Film is NOT for everybody. This will bore the living crap out of some people because it's very slow and a lot of the laughs in this, although marketed as a "Comedy", only come around every few times in the Film. About 10 or 15 minutes before a laugh out loud moment comes in this Film and the premise of this Film will be BEYOND uninteresting for some. The premise or the story is that Kay, played by Meryl Streep, and Arnold, played by Tommy Lee Jones, both play a couple who are married and love each other very much. But as time goes by for them Kay wants to but more stuff ahead of there marriage or "Spice it up" as the new generation would call it. They then both fly off to Main where they meet a marriage counselor, played by Steve Carell, to help them out. Again, this will BORE some people who are not into this stuff (Even though this Film is like 1 hour and 30 minutes long). This Film IS a chick flick but some Guys out there may actually get a kick of it. I'm a Guy and I thought it was a very sweet Film. So DON'T judge me. Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones share great chemistry with each other in this. I was honestly rooting for them A LOT in this Film. Even if Jones's character was the stubborn one in this. Again, DON'T judge me. Well that's a relief for Jones and it's a relief that there (Streep and Jones) both having a lot of fun doing this Film. Steve Carell, who is departing from his usual roles as a goofy, over-the-top male character, was also having a good time playing a marriage Counselor. Like I just said this is a departure from his usual roles so if your a hard-core fan of Steve Carell, of him always being over-the-top and goofy (NOT like Jim Carrey) in his Films then just deal with him here because here he plays a calm-peaceful Man who helps out people with there marriage. Maybe you could also check out "Little Miss Sunshine". Fans of Meryl Streep will fall in love with this because it's everything that they expect from a Meryl Streep Film. Check out "Kramer vs. Kramer" for further prof. Trust me on that. The Script by Screenwriter Vanessa Taylor (who is known for writing TV shows) writes a lot of strong and refreshing material in this that will get a lot of people moved and touched in this. The Script was one of the bigger advantages in this Film. So a great Script and great performances by Streep, Jones, and Carell will be a very good ride to take whether you love Meryl Streep or Steve Carell. I say see it but remember it IS a chick flick.
