Pompeii
Rating: 2/4
Amazing how for a Film to be this cheesy and just flat-out silly I was able to sit through it all the way through. Honestly, when I mean that this Film is just cheesy and silly, I mean that's it's freaking cheesy and silly because everything that goes on, all around, in this Film is just so silly -- but not dumb though -- because you got things to deal with in this Film like the really terrible dialogue, the hammy and kind of bad acting by all of these actors (with most being unknown), and the fact that this is being marketed as "a historical Film". But to give "Pompeii" credit, this Film is "Gladiator" compared to "The Legend of Hercules" which cam out earlier this year in 2014.
The first thing about this Film is that this Film is written terribly because pretty much all of the actors in this Film talk in such cheesy and cringe-inducing that it makes you chuckle at with what there saying. And also because with the writing being this terrible, you can't ever take whatever these characters are saying seriously -- as a matter of fact, you kind of wonder if the writers actually did there research on finding out on how people talked back in 62 AD.
The Second thing is that, yes, the acting in this Film was also bad too because With all of these actors being unknown to most American audiences (mostly me), nobody is going to properly enjoy "Pompeii" because they won't think to themselves while watching this: "Oh, look it's that actor from that Film" and how a lot of these actors just act so hammy and over-the-top in every single scene in this. So along with the really bad writing in this Film, the acting is especially bad in this. So, Bad dialogue + really hammy and over-the-top acting = a really, really silly Film.
And the Third thing is that for a Film that's marketed as "a historical Film" most of this feels so unrealistic, not because of the fact that "Pompeii" is just a really cheesy Film all together, but the fact that a director like Paul W.S. Anderson (absolutely no relations to Paul Thomas Anderson) would take the liberty and say "OK" to not only a badly written Script, but to also a Film that really doesn't work all together. No, as a matter of fact, if you look at this Film's poster, which is a picture of an erupting Volcano destroying a City along with two people kissing, THAT'S pretty much the ending of this Film. Now I don't mean to spoil this Film for you, but that's seriously how this Film ends. The Film's poster ITLSELF spoils the Film for you. You don't even have to watch "Pompeii" then thanks to the Film's lone Poster. That pretty much a good example on how this Film really doesn't work. And another thing to is that the Film's plot, or premise, doesn't begin until the last forty minutes in (so, this whole Film is just a set-up until they actually bring in the kind of Film that the audience wanted). Which, actually, is where the Film gets a little bit better. So, thanks to that, I didn't hate this Film as much as Critics did and I was able to watch this Film all the way through. So, while "Pompeii" is truly, truly a really cheesy and silly Film (being a masterpiece, maybe even "Gladiator" to "The Legend of Hercules") I was amazingly still able to finish the whole Film through. Can I recommend it to someone? Sure. But I can't really recommend it to someone who actually knows a good Film for once.
