Epic
Rating: 2.5/4
If you watch the teaser trailer for "Epic" you'll hear that at the beginning of it there playing the Snow Patrol song "The Lightning Strike". And when you watch the trailer, you just think to yourself that "Wow, this Film looks pretty badass for a Kids Film" and that it might be the next big animated Film of 2013. Now, although the teaser may seem to be a bit... Well, EPIC (no pun intended) the actual Film, in that matter, is "Not-so-Epic". Though "Epic" starts off to be a bit muddled and goes on very fast for a Film that's only 102 Minutes long, By the time at the end, however, the Film becomes a pretty decent animated Film. I mean it's not like a Pixar or a Dreamworks Film, it's just one of those animated Films that you'll watch once and then completely forget about it the next day after. Now I'm not going to call this a bad animated Film because of how it's for Kids and they don't know better, but, it just feels a bit underwhelming at times. Kids may be bored by the plot and they won't really care that much about most of the characters in this Film. Well, there's a Slug and a Snail in this Film that will just keep them awake for most of this so that's good. Honestly, when you watch this Film those two characters (the Slug and the Snail) are both Timon and Pumbaa from "The Lion King". But just not as funny. Fun to watch, but just not as funny. Another thing about "Epic" is that it kind of feels like a made-for-Television Film or even, hell, a direct-to-DVD one. When you watch this Film you just think to yourself that after this Film ends, there going to make the TV sitcom everybody was expecting at the end. And the Film does feel like it, it does feel like there going to make and produce more and more stuff that's going to involve stuff like TV shows or sequels to this Film. So, for my problems with this being a bit underwhelming and a bit boring, with the fact that it felt to much like a made-for-TV Film, it honestly got better by the end (even though it still felt like they were going to make a TV series afterwards). By the end of the Film "Epic" wraps up neatly and clean to what was going on in the Film. So, even though Kids may be bored a bit with the plot, they'll still be OK with how "Epic" ends. Another good thing is that the cast in this Film, from people like Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz (who's won two Academy Awards), Pitbull, and many others, all do good jobs voicing all of these characters in the Film. I thought all of the voices matched perfectly with all of the characters in this Film. So, while the Film suffers from a boring plot and feels to much like a mad-for-TV Film or a Direct-to-DVD Film, it still left me satisfied thanks to great performances by the Film's ensemble cast and a good enough ending. So, if you see "Epic" you'll enjoy it once, but never want to see it ever again. It'll still entertain you though.
