Life of Pi
Rating: 3/4
Although some people may be turned off or intrigued by the amount of religion and fate in the Film it really should not matter because it's just here so you can watch and love all of these characters visual effects, and the plot line of it. Now what I mean by religion and fate is that in the Movie they discuss a lot of that in the first 30 minutes of the Film. It deals with Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism and how are main Hero Pi Patel (Khan) becomes all of this just so he can "love God". The Story is that A Novelist (Spall) meets Pi (Khan) because of some knowledge he used to have with Pi's late Dad. Pi then explains to him all of his life and what had happened to him at Sea. During some point in the Flashback Pi recalls his late Dad wanting to move to Canada to sell the Zoo Animals he used to have in his Zoo. however one night a huge severe thunderstorm happens and Pi wakes up and tries to escape the Ship on a lifeboat he does successfully but unfortunately his Family did not make it out alive, while cast away out into the Sea Pi discovers a Bengal Tiger that is named "Richard Parker". So then the whole Film is Pi and the Tiger building up to an unexpected bond and become friends while fighting to survive the nefarious journey they have out at Sea. The Film succeeds in it's visual effects which are just flat out jaw-dropping amazing! I mean it just shocks you on how well they are done. (For example at some point in Pi's flashback he explains to the Novelist how he got his named. When he tells him that is Father came up with it after a swimming Pool in France he explains how the swimming Pool was one of the most clearest Pool in all of the World and when they show you his Father swimming in it- your just speechless.) Another thing that the Film succeeds in his Ang Lee's directing style of choice because just like with his previous Films, Sense and sensibility, Crouching Tiger, and Brokeback Mountain, he spends time with how all of the characters feel and brings it all to life in a slow simple way with close-ups, edits certain shots, and scenes that have to deal with drama and importance. Know another thing some People may be kind of turned off by the pacing which is VERY slow (for example the Film's opening Credits go on for about 3 or 5 minutes with a very slow moving Indian-like Song playing in it. That really should not be a problem because the Film keeps you awake by all of the Effects and all of the dramatic situations that the Film is building up to. So, yeah good Film, OUTSTANDING visual effects (good for you if you saw this Film in 3D!), great Directing from Lee, and likable Characters can expect a great time for your Friends and your Family to enjoy.
