Side Effects
As much as I love Steven Soderbergh's Films, Films like "Sex, Lies, and Videotapes", "Traffic", "Ocean's Eleven", and whatever else he's done, this new Film that he's done "Side Effects" really wasn't all that interesting to me. Look, I'm sorry but this one really didn't entertain me as much. I mean yeah , the acting was great in this (you got people like Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Channing Tatum -- In fact, Soderbergh is actually known for getting a lot of big-name people in his Films) and there was a lot of good character development in it, the writing is sort of there, and Soderbergh does give the Film good directing and leave the audience in a lot of suspense at times, Like in the one scene where Rooney Mara's character is tries to commit suicide by walking near the edge of a Train about to pass by (Spoiler Alert: She doesn't kill herself). I will be fair and say that that scene and three other one's did leave me in a good amount of suspense to make me enjoy this Film a bit more. But despite those good things that I said about "Side effects", the Film bored me a little bit. Actually, it bored me a lot at times, I was basically going to watch this Film and expect another "Contagion" from Soderbergh because I thought, after I read a synopsis of what this Film was going to be about, that this Film was going to be like that Film, also directed by Soderbergh (sorry, I forgot to mention that). I thought it was going to scare the crap out of me at times (The autopsy scene in "Contagion" as a good example -- sorry, I didn't mean to give that away), have me on the edge of my Seat (For the autopsy scene that I didn't mean to give away and some other scenes to that I won't spoil from "Contagion") , and to come out of this Film shaken and just shocked by the way it ended. Like "Contagion" did back in 2011. In "Side Effects", however, it just left me feeling exhausted and sleepy. I wanted to just take a nap after this Film ended or even go watch "Magic Mike" afterwards. At the beginning of this Film I was bought into it for about 25 minutes, but then as the rest of them Film progressed it just left me feeling tired. So although I wasn't to crazy about "Side Effects", I did appreciate how hard the whole cast worked to try and bring a suspenseful drama, with great acting and great character development. Unfortunately, "Side Effects" only half-succeed in that. Maybe if Matt Damon or Michael Douglas would have showed up in the Film then I would have enjoyed it because, you know, what's a Steven Soderbergh Film without those two?
(For some of my reviews the font size maybe a bit different then a bunch of other, old reviews that I've done and I may sometimes double-space and skip some lines when I write my reviews. For "Side Effects" I skipped lines and double spaced.)
