Prisoners
Rating: 4/4
NOT for the faint of Heart. Believe me when I say this because if you get easily disturbed, frightened, or cry easily in a Film DO NOT watch "Prisoners". Why? because throughout this whole Film, this whole entire two hour and thirty-three minute Film, I was just so into this Film, just so frightened and a bit disturbed, that I was never bored once watching this Film. Hell, even the first thirty minutes of this Film had me gasping. And even though this Film's story maybe a bit overdone (a story about child abduction), it still keeps you watching all the way thorough in the best ways possible.
Well, thanks go to the ensemble cast that "Prisoners" has: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, and Melissa Leo. In fact, four of the six that I mentioned all have had Oscar nominations. Including one Oscar winner; Melissa Leo ("The Fighter" in 2011). Everyone in this Film are just absolutely remarkable and fantastic in this (especially Jake Gyllenhaal). The amount of emotion and debt that all six of them -- along with everyone else in this Film -- give in this Film is just so emotional and so powerful that even though it may be hard to watch (with scenes including graphic torture and violence), they still keep you gripping on the edge of your seat throughout this whole 153 minute Film.
Now although this Film is an actors Film, the Film's violence and subject matter maybe a bit distraught to some because at times, like I already said before, it maybe hard to watch because of how graphic it is, but if you just think to yourself of what all of these characters, of what everyone in the Film, is going through you'll begin to understand that some of the stuff in this Film is very necessary. The Film's subject matter may turn off some too because if you can't handle a story about a father (Hugh Jackman) along with his two best friends who are a mother (Viola Davis) and a father (Terrence Howard) who's daughters go missing that heavily deals with what's going on in the best, but very disturbing -- yet, brilliant -- way, way possible then I suggest you go watch something else. Hell, "Argo" wasn't as intense and gripping as "Prisoners" was.
So while "Prisoners" may be hard to watch at times, it was still an absolutely brilliant Film because of how intense this Film leaves you and because of the fantastic performances by stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and everyone else in this two hour epic. To make a long story short: "Prisoners" promises and delivers. HARD.
